人们常用“make hay while the sun shines 要趁太阳高照晾晒干草”来规劝他人把握机会、勿失良机，这个谚语和汉语成语“趁热打铁”的意思相近。有时我们也会省略它后半部分的“while the sun shines”，直接说“make hay”。另一个同样表示“趁热打铁”的英语说法是“strike while the iron is hot”。
